Introduction to 5" Scale Locomotives. |
| There are currently
four designs small steam locomotive in the Maxitrak range. Available as
fully machined kits in stages, in painted kit form, also available in stages or complete fully assembled, painted and ready to run. The design
arrangements of these share many common components such as wheels, cylinders
and boilers although they each build into quite different engines, similar
in characteristics but not in appearance. |
| |
|
"DIXIE" for
example is an open cab engine with the distinctive and attractive square
saddle tank so typical of the Kerr Stuart "Wren" class. |
| |
|
"SAPPHIRE" is
a closed cab industrial engine with a round top saddle tank and is based on
a Baguley designed Bagnall. "RUBY" (available only by special order)
is a side tank and tender locomotive and all three are narrow gauge
industrial outline. |
| |
|
"SWALLOW" however is a Standard gauge tank engine, typical of those used on industrial
lines and is based on a Hunslet locomotive. |
| |
| All these locomotives
utilise the unique one piece aluminium chassis casting which incorporates
many parts such as the saddle, footplate and buffer beams. There are a
number of different valve gears available to suit the different prototypes
such as Marshall, Walschaerts and Hackworth with slip eccentric supplied as
standard. |
| |
| Construction of all
locomotive kits is straight forward using hand tools only and following the
step by step construction manual supplied with each kit. |
| |
| Boilers are silver
soldered and tested to twice working pressure! |
